Sewers Block

You know about writer's block... well, I've got sewer's block. I have started 2 quilts for 2 granddaughters who will be getting married sometime (soon?), but I just don't feel like working on them. (It's one of many character flaws. I realized what it was while working on my taxes in 1997... When stressed I like to procrastinate and eat. Anybody else relate to that?) Anyway, my horoscope said I should try something new today.... I've been seeing quite a few of the bloggers  I follow, sewing  scraps at random. (Scandalous!)  This afternoon I ran across a grocery sack of snippets and decided to try it. I've never done anything like this before. ( Earlier I had been bragging about painting with my grandgirls when they were little and how they taught me free expression... they were so good at it. Remember that, Ashleigh?)

I just tipped over the sack and started taking interesting pieces out and sewing them together - chain stitching.

Here is the first pile, ironed. I'm going to slice them up and add more colors. Enjoying the process.

Happy Thursday.

Hugs,
Terri

500th Post

Here's a link to the previous fabric baby book I wrote for my eighth grandchild.

http://quiltncards.blogspot.com/2013/02/8s-new-book.html

Couldn't think of any other way to get it on here.

Just realized this is my 500th post. I'm thinking I should have a giveaway... Lets see... I'll give my flower paper pieced square to one of my followers who comments. We'll pull a name off this post's comments. Giveaway is now closed... Winner = Julierose

Just realized I haven't shown the block before. Here's a picture

I'm going to give this until Sunday, then on Sunday we'll pick a name and award the block. Remember you have to be a follower and leave a comment to be considered. Good Luck. (Now closed.)

Hugs,
Terri

Flowers from here

We are still having spring flowers....
First the ones blooming at my house.

My rhubarb blossoming.

And below are wild flowers photographed in our Municipal Forest.

Anybody know what these purple ones are? The leaf is pointed.

The newest plant here. The angel wing begonia we bought yesterday for the back porch. It'll serve to make some new ones for Halloween, too. They are really easy to start.

Hope these remind you of the ones you saw months ago. We are just now having nice weather. 80 degrees today! (Shouldn't have mentioned that. It's expected to rain again tonight.)

So enjoy your weather, and hope your weekend is lovely. Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there.

Hugs,
Terri

"Writing" a book!

For my first Great Grandguy:  Paged out this way, (see the pin at left) but not finished with the sewing together.

He was called "Little Bear" while being assembled, so when I saw this paper piecing pattern in "Better Homes and Gardens 501 Quilt Blocks" page 158 I knew this would be the front of the book.

The birds are part of G. Grandguy's Grandpa's wedding quilt. ..The heart is from Sewhooked's free patterns (made without the pink ribbon).

Granddaughter plays keyboard, so the instruments are included as an I Spy "page". The star is another Sewhooked free patterns.

The angels are to remind us of G. Grandguy's Grandma... my Daughter.  The  butterfly is from "365 Paper Piecing Patterns (my bible - a gift from my Sister - Hi Barbara)"  I modified the pattern to make it easier!

Next pages:  balloons - nice colorful ones.  The Hand is for High Fives with his absent Great Granny (me). It's a pattern from Sewhooked.
The back of the book is baseballs.... he is a boy after all.  I hope to finish this in a couple of days and send it out for his Very Unbirthday.

So Ashleigh watch for this to arrive, but don't tell Little Bear. It's a secret. (Email me your current address... I don't think I have it.)

Have a wonderful weekend all you viewers.  Thanks for stopping by.

June Oneth!

Rainbow Scrap Challenge has set the colors for June 2016 for blues and lime green! Just the colors I want to use for a Storm At Sea for my Alyssa (granddaughter).  I'm starting a wedding quilt for her...
Still working on the Love Ring (uses the Drunkard's Path pattern) for another granddaughter (Rachael) getting married some time (this month?). They'll probably be given late... I'm no where near to the finish.
Val is looking for a few good quilters to join in her I Spy fabric exchange. Check her blog for the rules. I have some fabrics, but not the right stuff.

My African Violet is really outdoing itself this year. I've pinched a few of the leaves and started 4 for the Halloween giveaway.  Hope they all take. Here I think that indoor plants will be more desired. Lots of the plants I brought with me have died. Lack of sunshine, is the cause, I think.

Well, back to the secret project that everyone knows about... I was just too excited about it not to share.  Got a star nearly done and two different hands cut out and fabric chosen. Gotta find a few more patterns, (Just remembered some butterflies I made years ago.) maybe some I Spy fabrics, too.  (Star, below, still needs to be sewn together.)

Sew, that is all from here. Hope your there is sunny and warm... we are not!

Hugs,
Terri
